Slugworks Canvas
Enroll to Gain Access
To gain full access to Slugworks, please complete the online certification via our Canvas course and attend any in-person safety certification necessary for the machine resources you wish to gain access to.
Slugworks is completely free and open to all undergraduate students regardless of major, grade level or technical proficiency. Don’t hesitate to learn something new – that’s what this space is all about!

Pathway to Certification: Modules
As shown in the graphic above, in order to access any of the associated Space Modules, students must first complete the first three Introduction Modules. Module 3: General Safety completion is locked behind an in-person General Basement Safety Walkthrough, which is led every day, Monday – Friday at 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM & 5:00 PM. After attending the General Basement Safety Walkthrough, students will be prompted to complete an associated quiz, which will complete Module 3 and unlock all associated Space Modules.
Every space at Slugworks has different machine resources, safety guidelines, and community protocol – with this in mind, it’s important to finish the Canvas module for whatever space a student wishes to gain access to. Upon completion of a Space Module, students will be granted a Space Access Badge, and the associated Machine Modules for the resources in the space will unlock. For more information about the spaces, see this website’s Facility & Tools page or the Spaces Explained page in the Welcome to Slugworks module on the Canvas Course.
Pathway to Certification: Check Ins & Check Offs
Most machine resources at Slugworks are accessible through their associated Machine Modules. Each module has online components (e.g., Introductions, Safety, General Protocol, S.O.P.’s, and quizzes) and in-person learning components (e.g., In-Person Check Ins and In-Person Check Offs). In-Person Check Ins are scheduled via the associated Canvas Machine Module and vary in times – please schedule these supervised machine introductions from the Slugworks ’24 – ’25 Canvas course. After attending the In-Person Check In and completing all of the relevant quizzes online, students can schedule an In-Person Check Off. In-Person Check Offs invert the roles, with students explaining safety, procedures, and best practices. In-Person Check Offs, like In-Person Check Ins, must be scheduled in advance and are offered weekly. In-Person Check Offs are scheduled through the Slugworks Canvas Course.

Opportunities & Events for Students
Lead By Design
Are you passionate about sharing your skills and ideas with others? Through this 5-unit course, students with a range of technical skill sets and expertise will be guided through the development of a 3-unit engineering project-based design lab as a course. Once your course is complete, you will teach it as a First Year Design class to lower-division students. Lead by Design requires a team-based application and is tailored to upper-division students with expertise in the given topic.
CMPM 115 : Lead by Design is offered in Fall and Spring quarters. Apply below to prepare to teach – this could be a class that has already been created or propose a new topic!

First Year Design
CMPM 17 : First Year Design classes are led by student-teams who completed CMPM 115 : Lead By Design. These courses provide introductory access to a variety of concepts and skills fundamental to engineering and creative design in an active learning environment. Students will work through the engineering design cycle by building a tangible product while learning to safely use software, tools, and equipment available in Slugworks. Join a class to gain hands-on skills in Rocketry, 3D printing, Hacking, and more! Click to the link to learn more about classes that were developed and taught by students such as yourself.
Workshops
What Are Workshops? Workshops are student-led events where technical skills are taught, ranging from screen-printing to sewing and even 3D modeling. Anyone is welcome to come by a workshop and learn something! Workshops are a great way to learn a quick skill, gain some cool items, and socialize with others!
When & Where Do Workshops Take Place? They take place in the BE-55 Classroom, varying times on Fridays. For more details on the time, reference our calendar or look out for an update on our Instagram.
Interested in Leading a Workshop? Leading a workshop is great for those who have a skill and would love to teach it to others. It’s a great opportunity for students to develop skills. Applications to create a workshop are linked below. You will be paid and encouraged to apply as a small group.

Passion Meetups
What are Passion Meetups? Passion Meetups are gatherings for undergraduate students to share and pursue their passions, utilizing the unique resources and amenities offered at Slugworks, such as fabrication, manufacturing, modeling, prototyping, and computing tools.
Where/When do Passion Meetups take place? These meetups are held at BE-55, also known as “The Slugworks Classroom,” and take place at times organized by the students themselves, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for all participants.
Why attend/lead a Passion Meetup? Passion Meetups exist to empower students to build a community around their interests, fostering creativity and collaboration. They provide a platform for students to engage with like-minded peers and bring their passions to life on campus.
